2012 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Vintage: The 2012 growing season began with normal winter and early spring rains. The 2012 weather pattern more closely aligned with the 2008 growing season, with bud break and veraison occurring earlier than in 2010 and 2011. Coastal morning fog gave way to warm afternoon sunshine during the important summer months for a long, moderate growing season. Grapes were given ample time for even, full maturity with uniform sugar and acid levels.
Vineyard: 2012 was the fifth year Terra Valentine sourced fruit from this specific vineyard site. Located at the extreme western edge of Sonoma County up on Kings Ridge that looks right onto Marcassin, Hirsch, and Red Car, this site has excellent potential with an already impressive pedigree. The Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is comprised of two distinct clones, 777 and 828. Clone 777 offers intense colors and aromas with balance and round tannins. Clone 828 creates robust complex wines with good acidity.
Tasting: Earthy black cherry with tobacco, bergamot, allspice and orange zest. Rich forward fruit on the palate with toasty caramel french oak flavors lingering on the finish.
Composition: 100% Pinot Noir
