2004 Marriage 750 ml
This Bordeaux blend was first produced to honor the marriage or our winemaker Sam Baxter and his wife Angela. Marriage symbolizes the love that brings two people together to become one. Terra Valentine celebrates that commitment with this special blend where select barrels of Bordeaux varietals are united, bringing out the best in each other.
In 2004, bud break occurred early and the trend carried forward throughout the growing season. Heat spikes occurred in June and at scattered intervals throughout the summer season. Sugars developed earlier than normal and temperatures were steady into one of the earliest harvests we have had. The quality of the grape was excellent, producing small and intense fruit.
The 2004 Marriage Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon from teh top of the Wurtele Vineyard, an d6% Merlot from the Yverdon Vineyard. We use the best barrels (85% new and 15% once used French Oak) and age them for 30 months, bottling the wine unfined and unfiltered.
Terra Valentine is blessed with two estate vineyards that capture the best of Spring Mountain District winegrowing: The Wurtele Vineyard and the Yverdon Vineyard. They are distinguished by a diversity of mountain terrain and vines that are well adapted to the environment. While the mountain sites present challenges - including accessibility, diversity of soils, ripening, and hand labor - they reward the effort in wine filled with intense flavor and color. Each vineyard, with a unique set of soils, exposures, and micro-climates, produces a wine of distinction and personality reflecting the terroir of the estate.
The 2004 Marriage opens with aromas of dark chocolate, espresso and black cherry with hints of bay and cedar. Wild black and blueberries fill the mouth finishing with mocha and caramel and big, sweet tannins. Estimated maturity, 2012-2016.
