An early start to the growing season was followed by a very cool summer. Temperatures remained cool which led to slow and steady flavor development. To compensate for the cool year, leaf pulling was implemented across the fruit zone to increase sunlight to the berries. Several weeks of warm temperatures in September and October brought ideal ripening temperatures. Fruit in the vineyards showed good flavors and balanced acidity all with lower sugars.
Our Estate Cabernet Franc is sourced from the Terra Valentine Estate, located at an elevation of 2,000 feet. In 2006, two blocks were planted to three French clones, 214, 327, and 623. To promote full ripening and flavor development in the Cabernet Franc, these vines were planted in the warmest sections of the Estate, in areas with the shallowest, rockiest soils.
Floral notes of lilac mingled with dark plum and baking spices. Bold and chewy tannins greet the palate with rich fruit and soft round edges.
