2009 Spring Mountain District Cabernet Franc

Vintage Notes: In 2009 we were blessed by a mild spring with very little frost damage, compared to previous spring, which doled out six times the amount of frosty mornings. Late spring rains, along with lower than average high temperatures, helped reduce the need for irrigation. The cooler temperatures led to longer hang time which allowed a slow-and-steady growing season. The relaxed pace of harvest was abruptly transformed to rush-harvesting as early-season rain welcomed itself to the valley. Even so, the grapes were well-developed and ready to go.

Vineyard Notes: Our Estate Cabernet Franc is sourced from the Terra Valentine Estate, located at an elevation of 2,000 feet. In 2006, two blocks were planted to three French clones, 214, 327, and 623. To promote full ripening and flavor development in the Cabernet Franc, these vines were planted in the warmest sections of the Estate, in areas with the shallowest, rockiest soils.

Tasting Notes: The 2009 Estate Cabernet Franc has an absolutely beautiful nose. Boysenberry, mint, and floral components all come out of the glass. On the palate the wine is lush and rich with black cherry and allspice. The fruit is well-balanced with slight hints of toasty oak and ends with a lingering toasty finish.
