2009 Sauvignon Blanc

2009 Sauvignon Blanc

Vintage Notes:

In 2009 we were blessed by a mild spring with very little frost damage, compared to 2008, when spring doled out six times the amount of frosty mornings.  The fact that late spring rains helped to develop water reservoirs, along with the lower than average high temperatures, helped reduce the need for water.  Cooler temperatures and longer hang time coupled to allow for a slow-and-steady growing season.  The relaxed pace of harvest was abruptly transformed as early-season rain welcomed itself to the valley.  Even so, the grapes that were harvested in time were well-developed and ready to go.

Winemaking Notes:

This Yountville Musque clone was harvested September 8th-9th and then cold-fermented 15 days in stainless steel tanks.  The wine was then aged 4 months in neutral French Oak puncheons surlie.  Sterile-filtered and bottled in March. 620 cases produced.

Tasting Notes:

This wine offers an array of summery, tropical aromas with high notes of citrus, pineapple, lemon meringue and bright grapefruit, while the lighter notes of lychee, guava and gardenias float out of the glass.  Crisp, but full-bodied and balanced acidity, this wine ends in a round key lime finish.  The purity of the clean fruit notes would be a stand-out duo with chicken salad tossed with cilantro and mandarin slices.
