2006 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley

Vintage Notes

The 2006 growing season in the Russian River was cool and slow, with optimal flavor from long hang-time.  Delayed bud-break and late rains encouraged stronger vine growth and pushed harvest dates quite late.  Cool weather throughout allowed time for good flavor development with the added benefit of great acid retention.

Vineyard Notes

We source our fruit from three vineyards in the Russian River Valley.  The Freestone Vineyard is located at the border of the Russian River Valley and the Sonoma Coast.  Up on a ridge above the town of Occidental is Morelli Lane Vineyard.  The Campbell Vineyard is in the Green Valley sub-appellation near the town of Graton.

Winemaking Notes

The 2006 Pinot Noir was handpicked from all three vineyards mentioned above.  Grapes were hand-sorted and fermented for 11-24 days, half with native yeasts.  It was aged for 10 months surlie in French Oak, 35% of which was new.  The wine was bottled unfined with light filtering.

Tasting Notes

The nose opens with sweet cola berry, notes of anise, cedar and subtle spice.  Rich raspberry flavors fill the mouth, smooth tannins, balanced acidity and toasty finish.
