2006 Marriage 1.5 L
This Bordeaux blend was first produced to honor the marriage of our winemaker Sam Baxter and his wife Angela. Marriage symbolizes the love that brings two people together to become one. Terra Valentine celebrates that commitment with this special blend where select barrels of Bordeaux varietals are united, bringing out the best in each other.
2006 was one of the wettest in recorded history on Spring Mountain, reaching 100 inches in some areas. The cold wet winter delayed bud break to mid-late April, and though the fairly warm spring conditions provided some catch up, bloom and veraison were also delayed resulting in a later than normal harvest. The summer conditions were similar to 2005 with average temperatures in June and warmer than normal conditions in July. August and September were idyllic and maturation proceeded smoothly through those months setting up perfect harvest conditions in October and a bit into November.
Winemaking NotesThe 2006 Marriage Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 44% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 16% Cabernet Franc from the Yverdon Vineyard, while 20% Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from the top of the Wurtele Vineyard. The best barrels were chosen (85% new and 15% once-used French Oak) and the wine was left to age for 30 months. Afterwards, it was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Terra Valentine is blessed with two estate vineyards that capture the best of Spring Mountain District wine growing: The Wurtele Vineyard and the Yverdon Vineyard. They are distinguished by a diversity of mountain terrain and vines that are well adapted to the environment. While the mountain sites present challenges - including accessibility, diversity of soils, ripening, and hand labor - they reward the effort in wine filled with intense flavor and color. Each vineyard, with a unique set of soils, exposures, and micro-climates, produces a wine of distinction and personality reflecting the terroir of the estate.
Dark cherry, brambly fruits, cinnamon, clove, sweet tobacco and cocoa on the nose. Satiny tannins and plush fruit envelop the mouth with candied fruit and chocolate covered cherries. The velvety tannins expand in the mouth before slowly ending in a long and smooth finish.
