2010 Sauvignon Blanc
Vintage Notes: 2010 was a challenging vintage in Napa Valley. An early start to the growing season was followed by a very cool summer. Temperatures remained cool which led to steady but delayed flavor development. To compensate for the cool year, leaf pulling was implemented across the fruit zone to increase sunlight to the berries. A week of high temperatures and dry winds scorched many vineyards across Napa valley leaving exposed fruit sun burnt. Several weeks of warm temperatures in September and October brought ideal ripening temperatures. Despite the tough year, fruit in the vineyards showed good flavors and balanced acidity all with lower sugars.
Winemaking Notes: In 2010 we sourced Sauvignon Blanc from two distinct vineyards. On September 17th we harvested just over two tons from a vineyard in Oakville. This fruit retained fresh acidity and bright grapefruit characters. A vineyard in Yountville supplies us with 4 tons of a Musque clone which was harvested October 2nd and brings great rich peach and melon components. The wines were then cold-fermented for 15 days in stainless steel tanks and aged 4 months in neutral French Oak puncheons surlie before being sterile-filtered and bottled in March.
Tasting Notes: This wine offers an array of flavors, floral aromas with notes of bright lemon, and citrus. Crisp, with a balanced acidity ends in a lemon custard finish while the mid palette gives flavors of melon, peach, and grapefruit. Drink: 2012 -2014
