2003 E Block Cabernet Sauvignon
This block is situated at the north end of the vineyard and is one of the few blocks that is not on a terraced slope. The gentle rolling plateau is at the base of H block and consists primarily of sedimentary soils. The vines are trained in a quadrilateral cordon fashion called Geneva Double Curtain (left). Plainly speaking, the canopy is divided onto two parallel wires each with 2 cordon arms. The rows are spaced at 11 feet with 6 feet between vines. This is the coolest block of the Wurtele Vineyard due to the sheltered location and to the cool air that flows down the upper slopes and settles onto E block. This typically is one of the last blocks to be harvested, but it is worth the wait.
The 2003 E block shows brambly wild berry notes with bright acidity. The broader structure of the tannins leads to a full bodied mouthfeel and long finish. This wine is available through wine
club membership only. Retail: $45.
